Dubai: UAE's first solar-powered gas station opensSituated on Sheikh Zayed Road, the facility is covered with solar panels that can generate up to 120 kilowatt hours of energy, which is 30% more than it requires.

The UAE's first solar-powered petrol station, developed by Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), has been inaugurated in Dubai.

Situated on the city's Sheikh Zayed Road, the facility is covered with solar panels that can generate up to 120 kilowatt hours of energy.

The figure represents 30% more energy than the station would need, with the excess power directed towards the city's electric grid.

It is planned that the station will reduce CO2 emissions by 195 million metric tonnes each year.

Remarking on the development, Saif Humaid Al Falasi, ENOC's group CEO, said: "ENOC has always been a major enabler in the UAE energy sector and made significant contributions to the emirate's development drive."

National news agency WAM reported that Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, vice-chairman of ENOC and managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was also present at the inauguration ceremony.
